Kolkata- a place for travel, food, cultures and entertainment

Kolkata is among one of the eminent metropolitan cities of India. The former name of Kolkata was Calcutta and is known as the capital city of West Bengal. With the location determination factor, it is situated just at the east bank of Hooghly River. According to the estimation, the city is occupied with 4.5 million residents. This is just an estimation of people residing in metropolitan area. People willing to visit Kolkata will have a great variety of tourist attractions. The popular places where people would love to visit are Birla Planetarium, Nicco Park, National library, Victoria Memorial, Eden Gardens, Belur math, Botanical garden etc. Kolkata is a place where an individual can find people from various part of the world. Mostly, the people are Bengali in origin but apart from this particular group we would also find Anglo Indians, Biharis, Chinese, Guajaratis, Tamils, Nepalese, Oriyas, etc among Kolkata people. All the ethnic groups are residing peacefully in Kolkata. The wonderful city is also known for its playground called Kolkata Maidan. This is one of the tourist sports and is really a large urban park of Kolkata. The particular ground is famous for playing cricket as well as Football. The place is also dotted with statues and notable piece of architecture. Kolkata is a home for one of the team in IPL- Kolkata Knight Riders. Kolkata club is quite famous for both the sports namely cricket and football.

Durga puja is the great and famous festival in the city where people from various parts of the world visits the wonderful puja festival. This is a religious festival for Hindus which take place in October or September. This puja is devoted to the mythological goddess called Devi Durga. After killing Mahishasura (devil) she is shown gratitude by the people of the Earth. Other festivals such as Kali puja, saraswati puja, Dol, Eid, Poila Baishakh, and Christmas are celebrated in Kolkata.

Kolkata is quite famous for its lovely food specially the sweets. People of Kolkata are really fond of various yummy foods in their lunch as well as dinner. The mouth watering vegetarian dishes, soups and appetizers are available here. The famous sweets found in Kolkata are Roshogolla, Pantua, Chomchom, shondesh etc. Kolkata foods would also include typical Bengali dish which can be served in a thali. People of Kolkata are delighted about Chinese, Mexican and Italian dishes.

Kolkata Metro has begun its operation from the year 1984. This is a rapid transit system in Kolkata which currently have got one operation line stretching from dumdum to Garia. Five more lines are under construction. Other mode of transportation in Kolkata is taxi, bus and trains.

Recently Kolkata film festival took place which included Tollywood cinemas. This was organized in the presence of Honorable chief minister, Mamta Banerjee. People from various parts of world have visited Nandan to avail the pleasure of film festival. Tollywood cinemas were started in the year 1897 in classical theatres. Hiralal sen was the first individual to start making films. After classical theatres he has chosen royal bioscope and now we are blessed with multiplexes all over Kolkata.
